La diferencia con el Brutal Death Metal es en que los solos son a menudo una rareza y las canciones son generalmente más cortas en longitud, generalmente entre uno a tres minutos y se diferencian del grindcore en su aumento y contacto con la técnica y más lejos y con menos influencia del indudable hardcore punk. Es importante observar que el género no incluye los grupos del grindcore que se convirtieron en más adelante grupos del Death Metal tales como Carcass y Napalm Death, aunque este ultimo en los álbumes ‘The Code Is Red…Long Live the Code y Smear Campaign se puede considerar álbumes de deathgrind.

La música de berzerker se ha cacterizado por tener una fusion de death metal, industrial y speedcore. La banda fue fundada por Luke Kenny quien describe a la banda como Industrial Death Metal. Hasta el 2006, ellos han lanzado 3 álbumes que son los siguientes: The Berzerker (2000), Dissimulate (2002) y World of Lies (2005), todos producidos por la discográfica Earache Records. dentro de sus 2 primeros álbumes, la banda estaba compuesta por 4 miembros, algunos identificados como el vocalista, el bajista, el guitarrista y el baterista y distinguidos en los escenarios por sus controvertidas pero mounstrosas mascaras que ellos utilizaban.
